Fast Facts:
- Common Name:
Blue Jay - Scientific Name:
Cyanocitta cristata - Diet: Omnivore
- Size: 10-12 inches

Description:
Blue jays are commonly known for their blue, white, and black coloring. They are highly intelligent and are recognizable for their complex calls. In fact, blue jays often warn other birds with its alarm call, warning when predators are near, and have been known to impersonate the calls of predators.
Habitat and Migration
While common in mostly central and eastern North America, it’s becoming more common to see blue jays further south and west. Smaller flocks of blue jays often join up with larger flocks (sometimes up to 250 birds) to fly south during the colder months. However, much about the migration patterns of blue jays is still unknown. Some blue jays may migrate every other year and some stay in their colder homes throughout the entire winter.
Social Behavior
These birds are pretty social, often found in pairs or family groups. It’s common to see blue jays in smaller flocks.
